The Season After Pentecost
This is the longest season of the church year, and is characterized by Jesus’ preaching and teaching. In our liturgical practice, the season is considered “feral” as opposed to “festal.” The choir is on hiatus for most of the summer, and adjustments to liturgical staffing are made as seasonal attendance declines.
Wearing a chasuble is optional for the celebrant between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, inclusive.
Preludes and postludes continue as usual.
The Opening Acclamation continues to be “Blessed be the one, holy, and living God. / Glory to God for ever and ever.”
The Confession of Sin is restored, as are the Comfortable Words at 8 a.m.
The Prayer of Humble Access is restored at the 8 a.m. Eucharist.
