Funerals at St. Margaret’s

Overview

St. Margaret’s is committed to providing support to families on all occasions. The loss of a loved one is a time for mourning, yet Christians consider death a celebration of life. We are honored to assist you in your time of grief. In order to provide optimal support for you and your family, we have developed these guidelines for Memorial Services at St. Margaret’s.

Guidelines

Memorial services are given priority over all other meeetings and functions. Every effort will be made to accommodate your family’s schedule, yet memorial services may not be scheduled immediately before or after regular weekend or weekday liturgies. Please call to speak with a priest for scheduling. Final arrangements can be made after the priest ensures an opening in the calendar.

Clergy

St. Margaret’s clergy will conduct all memorial and funeral services. Guest clergy may participate in services with the approval of the Rector of St. Margaret’s.

Funeral Rites and Liturgy

All memorial services will use the rites prescrived by the Book of Common Prayer. Please consult with the officiating priest about planning the service. Outside groups are not permitted to conduct rites in the church building. Please note that eulogies and other types of remembrance are reserved for the reception following the church service.

Flowers

Two flower arrangements are permitted in the sanctuary. Other flower arrangements, photographs, or any other memorabilia are permitted in the narthex or place of reception.

Funeral or Memorial Service Fees

A $300 fee includes stipends for church staff and use of the facilities.

Additional Fees

The Organist-Choirmaster can arrange for soloist(s) and/or instrumentalist(s). Fees are charged separately and to be paid directly to them. All fees are due by the close of the business day before the service. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Columbarium

St. Margaret’s has a columbarium for the placement of cremated remains. Because of limited space, eligibility is for members and their immediate families only.

Memorial Garden Plaques

Our Memorial Garden is designed to accommodate memorial plaques. These may be purchased by those who would like to establish a memorial for departed friends or relatives.

Memorial plaques are uniform in appearance and content, containing the name of the decedent, their year of birth and death. Plaques will be placed in sequential order according to the time of placement with the exception of a plaque reserved by a spouse through a pre-planned donation at the time one is created for their loved one.

A mimimum donation of $600 to St. Margaret’s Memorial Garden Fund will cover the purchase of a space and to cover the cost of the plaque and its future care.
